Wyse Technology Releases Enterprise Class iPhone App for Desktop Virtualization

Wyse PocketCloud Redefines Delivery of Virtualized Desktops from Private and Public Clouds to iPhone and iPod touch Users

Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing and client virtualization, today announced the availability of its Wyse PocketCloud™ App.  PocketCloud is a brand-new app that allows IT administrators and end users to access their PC and virtual desktops remotely through the convenience of their iPhone or iPod touch.

Wyse PocketCloud"Wyse has always been focused on helping businesses with thin computing hardware and software that improve productivity, security, manageability and lowers overall TCO," said Daniel Barreto, Chief Software Architect at Wyse Technology.  "Now we can add convenience to the growing list of benefits we deliver to our customers.  Being able to access a remote desktop in the datacenter, the cloud, or your home while on the go using an iPhone or iPod touch is not only a significant technical achievement; it also reflects Wyse's philosophy to enable ubiquitous access to data and applications from any mature platform."

For individuals who are caught away from their computer, but need access to information on their mobile device, PocketCloud is a simple and effective way of taking your computer with you.  For IT administrators that are tasked with managing large numbers of computers, they can now get quick and easy access to an end-user machine through the convenience of their iPhone or iPod touch device.

PocketCloud uses a highly optimized Wyse implementation of Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) 6.0 to connect and communicate with a virtual or physical machine.  It leverages years of experience in embedded application development to achieve high performance, even while being operated on a smartphone with constrained resources.

The PocketCloud App is compatible with iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch.

Wyse PocketCloud accesses any physical or virtualized infrastructure that supports the Microsoft RDP protocol, and it additionally supports the VMware View 3.1 connection broker in direct and tunneling modes. SSL is supported in both cases, and the 1.0 release has experimental support for RSA 2-factor authentication.  Wyse PocketCloud integrates seamlessly into an already-established VMware View host environment and does not require any special setup or software installed.

"Combined with VMware View, the industry-leading desktop virtualization solution, PocketCloud provides easy, secure access to your desktop," said Patrick Harr, vice president of marketing, Desktop Business Unit, VMware.  "This is a nice addition for customers looking to accommodate user’s demands to access their desktop, data, and applications from anywhere and at any time."

Wyse PocketCloud connects to Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP Pro, Windows Vista Business, Windows 7, and Terminal Services features in Windows Server products.

PocketCloud also includes a Windows client side companion application that enables more advanced capabilities such as Thin-Browser™: an enhanced, server-side browser capability, enabling full access to Websites with Flash content.  PocketCloud Windows agent can be downloaded for free from www.wyse.com.au/iphone.

The PocketCloud App is available for $29.99 from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/.

Wyse will also be demonstrating PocketCloud at VMworld 2009 in San Francisco, California, at Booth #1824. To learn more about Wyse PocketCloud, please visit www.wyse.com.au/iphone.
